Still, your teeth could be extremely sensitive right after your treatment, and there are a few things you should do to keep your smile safe.
Of course root canals can only be painless because your teeth are numbed. However it’s important to note that this numbness can last for several hours after your treatment. Chewing while your teeth are numb can be difficult and can lead to biting your tongue and your cheek. If you do accidentally bite your tongue of lips, you may develop painful sores. These types of sores usually take at least a few days to heal.
Similarly, once your teeth are no longer numb, your tooth might be hurt by chewing hard foods. This is especially true if you’ve been given a temporary crown. In fact, chewing on hard food while you have a temporary crown could damage or dislodge your restoration.
On a similar note, it is important to avoid straws for a few days after you have root canal therapy. The sucking motion from a straw could disrupt your healing or even damage the work you’ve had done.
