When a patient is missing most or all of their permanent teeth, our dentists may recommend dentures in [city], [state]. These removable dental restorations can restore the beauty and functionality of your smile.

What Are Dentures?
Dentures are dental restorations that replace your missing teeth. An acrylic base that is flesh colored sits over the gums. Replacement teeth are attached to this base. With the upper denture, the base also covers the roof of your mouth.

What Are Full Dentures?
Full dentures are used when all of the teeth are missing. The gums and jaws may need up to several months to heal before dentures can be worn. Conventional full dentures will be custom made so they will fit your jaw well. There is another type of full denture called immediate dentures. As the name suggests, these can be worn immediately after any remaining teeth have been removed. However, the fit of these dentures must be adjusted several months after you receive them. Many people use immediate dentures while waiting for their conventional dentures.

What Are Partial Dentures?
When some of the natural teeth remain, partial dentures are used. These dentures have a metal framework that attaches to your natural teeth.

How Do I Care for My Dentures?
When you remove or put in your dentures, make sure you stand over a folded towel or a sink full of water. As dentures are fragile, they can break when dropped. Take care to keep your dentures from drying out. Place them in a denture cleanser or water when not in use. Brush your dentures daily to remove plaque and food. Also brush your tongue, gums, and palate every day before putting in your dentures. Visit our dental office if you have any issues with your dentures, like chips or cracks. The fit of your dentures should be checked by our dentists at least once a year.
